{"id":79978,"date":"2022-05-17T08:23:36","date_gmt":"2022-05-17T08:23:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/designalive.com\/?post_type=faq&#038;p=79978"},"modified":"2025-11-07T12:56:45","modified_gmt":"2025-11-07T12:56:45","slug":"what-are-the-suggested-computer-specs","status":"publish","type":"faq","link":"https:\/\/designalive.com\/faq\/what-are-the-suggested-computer-specs\/","title":{"rendered":"What are the suggested computer specs?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\"><h2 id=\"at-799780\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">Graphic Fundamentals, Graphics Empower &amp; Web Design<\/h2><div id=\"ac-799780\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Design Alive does <strong>not <\/strong>assist with helping you buy a&nbsp;computer&nbsp;suitable for the course, but below are suggested&nbsp;computer&nbsp;specs&nbsp;and details of a&nbsp;computer&nbsp;technician\/salesperson who can help you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students doing 3D rendering&nbsp;(Revit, Enscape) or video editing\/animation will need a top-end&nbsp;computer&nbsp;whereas students doing graphics only can get away with a slightly lower&nbsp;spec.&nbsp;Web design does not usually require a top end computer as students mainly use Figma for software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please refer to these computer specs that are appropriate for all of our courses ranging from Interior &amp; Graphic Design to the very robust 3D modeling applications (Autocad &amp; Revit) and a link to selected computers is linked below<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An i7 or i9 CPU<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>At least 16GB of RAM &amp; 256GB of storage<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A 64-bit operating system<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A dedicated (internal) graphics card (ex.&nbsp;NVIDIA) \u2013 not integrated!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Besides being more expensive, we&nbsp;do not&nbsp;recommend a Mac for AutoCad especially because our instructors use a PC (and Revit is not supported on Macs.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>While a 17 inch laptop is easier to see what you are designing, it would be too heavy to carry when visiting clients.&nbsp; Instead; we suggest a standard 15.6 inch screen and when working from home, you can opt for a secondary &amp; larger 27\u201d monitor (about $200).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An (external) SSD drive to safely hold your projects and ensure that your computer does not get overloaded.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Design Alive has partnered with B&amp;H Photo in NYC to handle all of these technical requirements and queries.
